Things to do in Mira
Mira has something rare: open ocean, a calm lagoon and a huge pine forest, all just minutes apart. This guide sums up what is really worth your time, in the order we usually suggest to our guests.

Mira beach
The main beach is wide, with pale sand and open Atlantic water. It has lifeguards during the bathing season, cafés right by the sand and parking a short walk away. It is about a 10-minute drive from the house.
Barrinha lagoon and river beach
A few metres from the ocean lies the Barrinha, a calm lagoon with a river beach. It is the obvious choice with children or on windy days: warmer water and no waves. Around it you'll find boardwalks, cafés and rentals for pedal boats, kayaks and stand-up paddle.
Pine forest and cycle paths
Between the village and the beach stretches the Mira pine forest, crossed by forest roads and cycle paths. It is flat, shaded and perfect for a late-afternoon ride or run. Almost the whole village-to-beach link has its own path.
Boat rides and canals
Mira is part of the canal system connected to the Ria de Aveiro. In high season there are boat rides on the lagoon and canals — a calm way to see the birdlife and the colourful old wooden palheiros typical of this coast.
A well-spent day
- Morning: the open-sea beach, before the wind picks up.
- Lunch: grilled fish at a terrace by the lagoon.
- Afternoon: kayak or stand-up paddle on the Barrinha.
- Evening: sunset over the lagoon and dinner outside at the house.
