Mira beach: what to expect
Mira beach is an Atlantic beach with a wide stretch of sand and the lagoon right next to it. Here's what you need to plan the day without surprises.
The sea
It is the Atlantic: fresh, with swell and currents that shift with the tide. On calm days it's great for swimming; on rougher days stay in the guarded area or swap the sea for the lagoon. Mornings are usually flatter, with the north wind picking up in the afternoon.
Bathing season and lifeguards
The bathing season normally runs from late spring to September, with lifeguards in the central part of the beach. Outside that period the beach stays open and is great for walks, but unguarded.
Getting there and parking
- About a 10-minute drive from the house, almost all on forest road.
- Several free car parks by the seafront; in August it pays to arrive before 11am.
- You can also cycle there on the flat cycle path.
Facilities
By the sand there are restaurants, cafés, ice-cream shops and public toilets. The seafront has a promenade, a playground and space for the usual summer fairs and festivals.
